Surface engineering for ceramic and SiC/SiC joint improvement

Surface engineering, based on the selective thermal removal (STR) from SiC/SiC composites, was used to increase the joined specific area and consequently the strength of SiC/SiC joints. The STR is aimed to obtain a brush-like surface on SiC/SiC by thermal treatment that leads to selective removal of SiC fibers.
