Development and Characterisation of Dynamic Bi-phase Epoxy/Polyurethane Thermoset Composites with Enhanced Impact Resistance

Development and Characterisation of Dynamic Bi-phase Epoxy/Polyurethane Thermoset Composites with Enhanced Impact Resistance

(Joint activity of Politecnico di Torino, Italy and IK4-CIDETEC, San Sebastian, Spain)

Description

Dynamic bi-phase Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) composites with enhanced impact properties were produced by exploiting the reversible cross-linking functionalities of dynamic epoxy and dynamic Polyurethane (PU) resin systems. By joining dynamic CFRP-epoxy and dynamic CFR-PU laminates, dynamic bi-phase composite in three different configurations were obtained and compared to single-phase dynamic CFR-only epoxy composites. The four dynamic composites were characterized for structural, thermal, flexural and impact properties.
